A Fusion of Art and Nature

Inspired by Art Nouveau aesthetics, the brooch celebrates flowing lines, natural motifs, and bold creativity. Designed in a blend of sterling silver and 14K yellow gold, the piece captures the delicate yet powerful presence of a beetle in flight.

The wings are adorned with hand-applied enamel, creating layers of depth and color that shift beautifully in the light. At its heart, five fancy-shaped alexandrites were carefully set, their rare color-changing qualities adding to the mystical aura of the piece.

Symbolism in Design

Throughout history, beetles have carried symbolic meaning across cultures. Often associated with rebirth, transformation, and resilience, the beetle represents life’s constant evolution. By incorporating this symbol into a brooch, we sought to create a piece that not only dazzles visually but also resonates with deeper meaning.

The alexandrite stones reinforce this narrative. Known for their unique ability to shift color from green to purple depending on the light, alexandrites have long been called “emerald by day, ruby by night.” They serve as a metaphor for adaptability, balance, and new beginnings.

Every step of the process — from sketching the initial design to setting the final gemstone — was done in-house at our San Diego studio. Our artisans approached the Beetle Brooch not just as a piece of jewelry but as a challenge in blending multiple techniques:
